SYMBIS – Save Your Marriage Before it Starts

“The most important decision you will ever make will be choosing to have a personal relationship with Jesus. If you’re planning on getting married one day, the second most important decision you will ever make will be who you choose to marry.”
Samantha Evans
Why Pre-marriage Coaching Matters
Here’s what we know for sure: 87% of young adults plan on being married eventually and 82% expect to be married for life. Did you catch that? Almost all young adults between the ages of 18 and 30 not only aspire to eventually be married, they plan on it.
And, perhaps more striking—in the face of a staggering divorce rate that most young adults have witnessed up close and personal—most still believe that when they marry, it will be for life.
Perhaps that’s why the pre-marriage population is so motivated. More couples want pre-marriage education than ever—and with good reason. It is “associated with higher levels of marital satisfaction, lower levels of destructive conflicts and higher levels of commitment.”
Here Are More Facts
- 76% of married couples say they wish they had pre-marriage education.
- 86% of Americans over 18 say all couples considering marriage should get pre- marriage education.
- Couples who do not receive pre-marriage education are more likely to see their problems as atypical and unsolvable.
- 41% of divorced couples say lack of pre-marriage preparation contributed to their divorce.
Does Pre-marriage Counseling Work?
Absolutely. Research conclusively shows that couples who succeed, gain the knowledge they need before they settle into destructive patterns that often lead to divorce. In fact, couples are 31% less likely to get divorced if they get some sort of pre-marriage training before they marry.
Not only that, couples who participate in pre-marriage programs experience a 30% increase in marital success and fulfillment over those who do not participate.
About the Assessment
The SYMBIS Assessment is the most practical, relevant and robust pre-marriage tool ever developed. The 15-page report it generates helps you explore a full range of issues—from relatively simple and static dimensions such as longevity of the relationship, critical skill-sets such as communication, and all of the complexities of joining two sets of personality dynamics.
Only certified SYMBIS facilitators have access to the assessment. You will receive an email invitation to complete the assessment online. Once both of you have finished (it takes about 30 minutes each), I will receive a 15-page report that we will review together over five 50-minute Zoom sessions. The report includes the following information:
• Marriage Momentum gives you an at-a-glance aggregate of a couple’s entire report.
• Mindset: Research reveals 5 possible attitudes toward marriage. The SYMBIS Report not only shows you which one each person has, but how their mindsets mesh.
• Wellbeing: A marriage can only be as healthy as the two people in it. The report reveals the psychological, emotional, and spiritual health of each person as well as any “caution flags” needing to be explored.
• Context: One not only marries another person but also their circumstances, their “baggage.” The Report reveals each person’s social support, financial picture, and family of origin. Second marriages and blended families can also be addressed.
• Dynamics: The report shows how two complex and unique God-given personalities combine on the issues that matter most: love, sex, communication, conflict, attitude and spirituality.
